Prayer is not an option for the Christian. It's an integral part of our lives. It's not something that we reserve just for ourselves either. We are to pray for others as well.

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises.                                         (James 5:13 NASB)

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men.    (1 Timothy 2:1 NASB)

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6 NASB)
